You take the Republicans to task for being so extreme and demonizing their opponents, but in the meantime you are putting out a book called explicitly comparing them to the Taliban.  It seems to me you are doing the exact same thing that they are.  You are part of the problem, not the solution.  Who do you think is going to read your book, anyway?  Only people who agree with you and will come out of it more estranged from their countrymen.

What makes you any different from that Ann Coulter bitch?

If one simply says, "They are like the Taliban." that would be like Ann Coulter.  If one makes a coherent, supported argument, that would definitely be more like us.

And what makes you different from Ann Coulter, when you refer to her as "that Ann Coulter bitch?" Who's demonizing now? Oh yeah, maybe it's warranted in Coulter's case...I mean, it's not hard to make a case based on her own words and opinions, but that's kos' whole point here: it's warranted to call the GOP base insane and undermining the democratic process and government's ability to function because of what they say they think and believe is insane. Seriously, what else can you call someone who still doesn't want to think Obama isn't an US citizen and that he can be impeached as is??? Either they are so stupid to the point of utter dysfunction, or they are insane, which is essentially a state of utter dysfunction. What's it going be?

      •  I just (0+ / 0-)

I just don't consider such a book helpful to the discourse at all.  The title is inflammatory right off of the bat.  Take a book like 'What's the Matter with Kansas' - that can make it's point without such language.  To me, calling them Taliban is no different than calling people on the left Communists.  I probably shouldn't have called Ann Coulter a bitch, but at least I'm not publishing a book with that as the title.

I just don't get all of this.  I have lots of friends who are GOP supporters - some quite conservative.  We don't share the same views on the issues and agree to disagree but we are all Americans.  I'm not going to reduce them to the status of the enemy.

is diagnosing it.  That's what Markos is doing.

In terms of viciousness, "American Taliban" is no worse than "Slouching towards Gomorrah" (the title  that darling of the right, Bork, gave his book), and far milder than what Republicans have been called liberals for 30 years now (traitors, anti-American, abominations, etc.)

Read the poll, for God's sake!

      following and smarts.

Friends, enemies and pundits will want to know his viewpoint and judge his depth.  The politically-adept may not find any huge surprises but the enemies will need to come up with quasi-plausible attacks to sate the "angry, white geezer" crowd.  And their first line of attack will be to accuse him of being the left's bitch by challenging his methods.
