Health care with public option, no mandates, lower cost. Government with transparency, no lobbyist influence.

Obama's secret deal with drug lobbyist to keep cost of drugs high killed everything in one shot.

    No public option.
    Mandates.
    Higher costs
    Secret deals.
    Lobbyist influence.

Had Obama come out fighting for real health care reform that delivered on what he promised, voters would still be with him even if Congress was holding him up.  But Obama showed himself to be "one of the boys".

Obama and his election raised hopes very high and Obama's betrayal of those hopes is what has people pissed off. It was Obama voters who elected GOP in Massachusetts. It will be Obama voter delivering Congress to GOP in 2010.

Even now when Obama could get with Reid and Pelosi and fix the health care bill and pass it with 50 votes, Obama won't do it.

Democrats will be punished in 2010 elections exactly as they were in '94.

    •  public option never had a chance (0+ / 0-)

if people had admitted that at the very beginning, we might have something passed by now

      •  70% of public want Medicare choice. (1+ / 0-)

It could have won had Obama used his initial popularity to push it hard, using reconciliation from the get go as the tool to make it happen.

Even now, offering people the CHOICE of joining Medicare by CHOOSING to increase there Medicare taxes would work great. A one page bill that fixes a LOT of problems and would make 70% of voters happy.

      •  that's garbage (0+ / 0-)

You had at least 50 votes for it, and 80% of the public already behind the issue.  Obama could have easily used the Bully Pulpit and oratorical skills to put Senators in the position of either supporting health care or at severe risk of losing their jobs.

        He chose not to.

has made a hell of a mess with his smartass PhRMA wheeling & dealing. That we rubes weren't ever supposed to find out about. But there's an internet now. Silver tongue, Harvard degrees and all, Obama got caught. Busted! These WH guys, they're amateurs. Think the Repugs, the smart ones anyway, don't know that's exactly what dragged them back out of the hole? It sure wasn't because America wants Boehner running anything. But we really hate getting played, especially after we worked, donated and voted our asses off like we did in '08. Hey, you think maybe it'll help if Obama yells his head off at the Republicans every day till November?

I can't help it. I'm really disgusted with these people.

      •  Obama can recover. Look at Clinton. (0+ / 0-)

As Obama said, he is going to make mistakes and the secret drug deal was a huge mistake as was/is his hands off approach to health care reform.

He's done will on the main budget in changing direction of US government in so many ways.  Court appointments. Energy related stuff such as oil use, green economy, climate change. Guantanamo and torture. Delivering now on gay rights in military.

His bravura performance in deconstructing the GOP directly gave us a vision of how Obama can recover.

        •  I hope so. He better get--and keep--moving, (0+ / 0-)

because he's only going to have one second chance.
