  •  No - it doesn't (0+ / 0-)

In our society, there are many diferent forms of discrimination that are completely legal, do not violate civil rights, and are perfectly accepted by our society.

Take sexual predators - they are discriminated against in that they cannot live where they want, even after they serve their sentences.  Convicted felons are discriminated against in that they cannot own firearms, or in many states cannot vote.  People with a bad credit rating are prevented from certain housing, or from certain jobs.  And the list goes on and on.

And when it comes to the military, they discriminate in a long list of areas.  My daughter was recently rejected by the navy because of some mental issues she had as a teenager.

These are all perfectly legal and accepted.

is there a compelling interest to discriminate? As I understand it, that is the position the courts take on denial of, or repression of, activities of suspect persons by governmental entities. The question one asks is whether there is a compelling interest in NOT allowing gays to serve. Feel free to define that compelling interest. I have trouble defining it. Military cohesion appears to be the interest the anti-gay crowd takes. It's kind of hard to see that interest given that they're already serving alongside straight servicemen/women.

        to which you are responding?

That person is saying that discriminating against gay people is the same as discriminating against convicted child molesters, felons and apparently his or her troubled daughter.

    •  That's a complete crock. (1+ / 0-)

Being a law abiding gay citizen is in NO way equal to opting to be a pettry criminal or felon.

Absolute bullshit that I am surprised hasn't provoked a whole lot more response from this community.

You are compltely misguided there in Colorado Springs.
