Can we see what the self-identified moderates think of these same questions?

The R's are nuts and getting worse, being fed Beck is not good for your brain. They will always vote R no matter what. But the more of this insanity they buy the higher their intensity will be, and that will hurt everyone but the GOP(especially if progressives become less engaged)

If the moderates are starting to think Obama is a socialist then we may be in trouble.

as extremists, then we may not be in trouble. So it goes.

Usually the first thing to do is motivate your base. Without them the moderates will not help.

Like I said, if the R's are totally fired up, and enough moderates think Obama is a socialist and if Democrats are not motivated, then we are toast. But apparently that might not happen because the GOP are crazy.

We'll see how that works out.

A new poll of more than 2,000 self-identified Republican voters illustrates the incredible paranoia enveloping the party and the intense pressure drawing lawmakers further and further away from political moderation.

The numbers speak for themselves -- a large portion of GOP voters think that President Obama is racist, socialist or a non-US citizen -- though, when considering them, it is important to note that a disproportionate percentage of respondents are from GOP strongholds in the South (42 percent) as opposed to the Northeast (11 percent). Also note that this is a poll of self-identified Republicans, which means that independent Tea Party types are not included.

how ignorant, self-deluded or just plain wacky these people are.  They are active and determined and they vote.

People who do not feed off Fox must be activated and show up at the ballot box or soon we will all be governed by the least rational among us.

but if I had a nickel for every dKos comment that essentially complains "don't tell me how bad R's are, tell me what Ds haven't done for me today, you D apologist"...

You know what? You do need to know how bad Rs are to put Ds in context. Push them, push them hard, but don't the the poll respondents win.
