  •  Well, if you want to get serious about it. (5+ / 0-)

First, it is too long.  It is a web ad and won't be shown statewide other than maybe clips on the local news and most of that will probably be to ridicule it.  It will actually offend fiscal conservatives who do watch it since it compares them to sheep.  Any non-ridiculing press it gets will either focus on that or on whether it is factual or not (I'm guessing not).  If the idea is to show that Campbell is not a fiscal conservative it doesn't do it very well compared to a straight out 30 sec commercial that viciously goes after him.  As humor that pokes fun at Campbell it fails.

I think the ad backfired.  Kinda like the Mac vs PC ads where John Hodgman is brilliantly funny and the Mac guys comes across like a hipster poseur.

    •  This ad will be a good lesson (0+ / 0-)

in the fact that not all publicity is good publicity, at least in politics.

    •  Point taken, I didn't intend to sidetrack (0+ / 0-)

our enjoyment! I am still curious to see how it evolves, however. I do understand it's a web ad, and as such will only be seen by a specific portion of the total audience unless edited down. And it may very well be a colossal fail. I was just ruminating (so to speak)on the potential power of emotional hooks in communications. Have seen many goofier things work with a target audience in ways not generally anticipated, while more straight-forward negative messages didn't.

Regular sig line is on sabatical.
