  •  I agree that the CIA is a major part of this (13+ / 0-)

problem, but I also blame the drones. It's an immoral technology.

You have civilians working 8-hour shifts in cubicles in Virginia, thousands of miles from any danger, casually ordering missile strikes on civilians from computer screens, as if playing a video game. It is incredibly evil.

This is just a very nasty and messy way of operating death squads. The United States would be screaming bloody murder if any foreign power were operating death squads on U.S. territory.

I think it's pretty insulting to the training and professionalism of the military's drone pilots, all of whom are professional airplane pilots as well. To write it off as a "video" game is pretty awful.

I would argue it's less messy than shelling from a protected position or shooting from jet planes or ships. If the program is being abused then we need to stop the abusers.

      •  How do you know that all of the CIA's drone (3+ / 0-)

operators are professional airline pilots?  Even if the CIA claims that, why should anybody believe them?  Most importantly, what difference does it make?

A pilot in a death squad is still in a death squad.

I said the problem was the CIA.

You said sure but it's also the drones and their pilots, and added some insults about them.

I said the military's drone pilots are highly-trained professionals.

Then you asked me how the I know the CIA's (which is not the military) pilots are airplane pilots and why would anyone believe them. I don't know about the CIA and I already said they were the problem.

A drone might be a death squad if a CIA agent with a chip on his shoulder is piloting one, but I feel that blanketing all drones and their pilots as death squads is misleading.

          •  Okay, thanks for clarifying. (0+ / 0-)

I thought all of the drone strikes in Pakistan were by the CIA.  That's what I'm focusing my ire on.  I'm not talking about military drone squadrons.

Am I right about that, that it's all CIA in Pakistan?

        in the New Yorker . . . .

In essence, they're playing video games with people's lives.

Of course, as Bill Maher found out, you can't say that type of thing on ABC.

But I suspect that such Heresy can still be uttered here at DailyKos.
