If the WH and DLC insist on forcing House Dems to pass the Senate bill with the Cornhusker Kickback in it, Portman will use it against Brunner and every other Dem running.

All the more reason the WH should stop pressuring good Dems in the senate and house to pass the tainted Senate bill and let them clean it up in reconciliation first.

Everyone ends up a winner - Dems running in November, average Americans who need health care, everyone.  The losers - Republicans and corporate campaign donors.

Come on DLC Dems - don't let a bunch of weaselly corporate lobbyists scare you!

      •  Not against Brunner - that's my point. (5+ / 0-)

Both parties can run against each other nationally.  Brunner is the outsider, insurgent candidate.  Portman has a lot more to answer for from his Bush CBO years.

in Ohio for many years, Portman can and will use such a vote, if it takes place, to smear a Dem opponent.

Ohio has a very conservative news media and they've already signaled they want to protect Voinovich's seat for Portman.

All politics is local, you know.

Why give Portman a "corruption" talking point to use against a Dem opponent. Fix the Senate bill and the problem goes away.

along with a couple of current sitting senators believe they are better off with no bill or the Senate bill? HCR is unpopular in Nevada and Arkansas.

And he can claim corruption all he likes, but Brunner could do the same with the Republican Party.  And Brunner isn't in the Obama Administration or current congress, Portman was inside the Bush White House.

beause Jennifer is strongly and outspokenly on the other side of that issue. He'll more likely accuse her of being for "socialist" health care and 'big government." You can't actively charge her with something she would condemn; you'd look foolish. Portman's many things but not foolish.

He's going to accuse Jennifer of a bill she didn't vote on and doesn't support and that really isn't even about corruption at all, just insider favor trading -something Portman is guilty to the eyeballs of?

jennifer is a single payer advocate. This would never ever stick and Portman's not stupid enough to think it would. He's much more likely to accuse he of supporting a "government takeover" of health care.
