    are you always this boorish?

wishing me ill with no health insurance wasn't enough for today?

      Why would you support her?

a politician who agreed with me on the finer points of every issue.

Do you write-in "Betty Pinson" on every ballot?

        •  So you feel health care (0+ / 0-)

is a "minor issue". Ok, you're entitled to your opinion, but hundreds of millions of Americans disagree with you.

          •  quotation marks are used (0+ / 0-)

            when you are quoting someone.

I did not use the phrase "minor issue" in my post, so if you're going to use that phrase in response to the above comment, you shouldn't put quotation marks around it.

That aside, I don't think health care is a minor issue. I think Brunner and cedwyn disagree on a finer point (you can quote that) regarding legislative strategy and the acceptability of certain peripheral funding provisions, but, based on what I know of both, have very similar ideological tenets and goals.

is a very important issue, not a "finer point".

All those promises to voters that they won't lose insurance when they get sick, will not be discriminated against for pre-existing conditions, etc. may seem minor to some, but voters have been paying very close attention to them and are counting on Democrats to deliver on those promises.

That said, putting a structure in place to back up those promises with real regulation is very important.  The House bill does that, the current senate bill doesn't.

We spent a great deal of national debate time discussing the need to adequately regulate the insurance industry, particularly when we are preparing to hand them trillions of our tax dollars to subsidize health insurance premiums.  Failing to create a strong system to regulate and oversee how those tax dollars are spent would be a major mistake for Democrats.

I'm sure good Democrats like yourself would never want to be in the position of making promises to voters they can't deliver.  Check this site and see diary after diary, story after story, about people who have been denied care due to regulatory abuse by the insurance industry.  It is an important issue.

          •  I"m baffled, Betty, (4+ / 0-)

as to what your problem is. Jennifer is a strong single-payer advocate who is practical enpough to say we can't get there from here but we need to start moving there. Like my congresswoman, she will advocate strongly for her position, but knows when we've gained all we can at this particular time.

betty's problem is me, specifically.  she doesn't like what she imagines my position on HCR to be and so here we are.
