    this is rarely about individual heroes and villains. look how Senate support for a public option evaporated in the face of actually having to vote on it, as opposed to when it was just an abstraction that would never come up. or the student loan bill. many examples.

    Reid says "the votes aren't there", and then any particular Senator X can say "well Reid says the votes aren't there" but what never gets spelled out is, Who is it that won't vote for this? We can't name names, that would be unseemly.

    Every Senator who plays along with the clubhouse rules is responsible for the mess that results.

    Which, I guess, means that by Darcy's standard, if it never comes up for a vote, then all of them are in the pocket. Sounds about right.
