    without having an account there.  At least that's the case where I am.  In a small town it's easy to do; in a larger city it may not be possible to get to a specific bank.

      the bank will hold the payment for two weeks even if the account is drawn on that bank.

      Here in California the law used to be that checks are legal tender, this was due to the fact that script was scarce and gold was too heavy to be utilized for everyday use, now getting a check cashed anywhere is an ordeal.
