  •  Quilting Bee (0+ / 0-)

I thought of a plan. I wish I knew a way to make it happen. It would be fashioned after the A.I.D.S. event where people made a quilt and put it together in Washington D.C. Every square would represent a person who has died because of no health care or inadequate   health care. With a second quilt for people who have gone bankrupt due to health care bills.

    •  You need a third set of squares (0+ / 0-)

You need one for people like me who have experienced major harm due to unavailable or inadequate health insurance and, thus, health care.

For instance if someone was denied a mammogram by her insurance company for being "too young" and then lost a breast due to cancer, that would count.

Someone like me who lost kidney function to kidney stones because a doctor wouldn't authorize lithotrypsy and then lost the rest of her kidney function due to rampant (thanks to lack of insurance) diabetes and hypertension and is on dialysis because of it...that would count.

Someone who was advised by busy and unengaged professionals and by tons of advertising to take NSAIDs for pain, over and over again for years, and lost kidney function would count.

Someone who got the wrong leg amputated would count.

Someone who got MRSA due to hospital staff being too rushed to wash their hands would count.

Things like that. Stories of people who are messed up by lack of care or by lack of caring but who didn't die or go bankrupt would still need telling.

Living kidney donor needed; type B, O, or incompatible (with paired donation). Drop me a note (see profile).
