    Missions

    The Coast Guard carries out three basic roles, which are further subdivided into eleven statutory missions. The three roles are:

       * Maritime safety
       * Maritime security
       * Maritime Stewardship

    The eleven statutory missions, found in section 888 of the Homeland Security Act are:

       * Ports, Waterways and Coastal Security (PWCS)
       * Counter Drug Law Enforcement
       * Migrant Interdiction
       * Other Law Enforcement (foreign fisheries)
       * Living Marine Resources (domestic fisheries)
       * Marine (maritime) Safety
       * Marine (maritime) Environmental Protection
       * Ice Operations
       * Aids to Navigation (ATON)
       * Defense Readiness
       * Marine (maritime) Environmental Response
