has to do is suggest the absence of a quorum every couple of hours, and it only has to be done by one person?  Then, while 40 Republicans can go home, 50 Democrats have to stand around, looking useless.

There's a difference between what Newt was trying to do and what the Republicans today are doing.  Newt wanted to run the government himself.  The Republicans today want to keep government from functioning while they are not in charge.

Don't make God into an idiot just because you want to ignore evolution.

These are made up rules. The people in charge make them up.And your repsonse- to spout me more of the made up rules. The only difference between now and then is that there was at least one person in charge who got that the rules are whaty ou make of them.

are made and changed according to a process, just like laws. Democrats cannot just decide to change the process for changing rules any more than the President can decide to change the process for changing laws.
