    •  Main IRS Processing Center 12 miles away (4+ / 0-)

Just to be clear: the main processing center for the IRS in Austin is at the NE corner of Interstate 35 and US Highway 71, nearly twelve miles from the crash site.

That is a huge complex, and handles all (national) ITIN requests and all the tax return processing for the following states: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky.

The offices in the building hit were for the civil enforcement and criminal investigations divisions, a much smaller series of offices in a lease space within a large office complex.

The IRS in Austin is a huge employer of permanent and seasonal employees and is hoping 24/7 right now. I just want to clarify the differences in locations and functions.

that there were "some" IRS offices in the first floor of the building.  I live in Texas so I know Austin has the regional center for the IRS.
