While the outrage is understandable, I think this should be viewed as an opportunity to try and influence the decisions being made regarding the cleanup of the Kingston Fossil spill including decisions for landfilling the ash.  This diary and Mr. Bass's comment provide a good start in airing the issues.  I haven't followed this closely (I'm already involved with a large Superfund cleanup leaving little time to participate in this stuff), but if there's a public participation process (both Superfund and RCRA Corrective Action provide opportunities for public input), this may be the opportunity to lobby for financial assurances, collateral economic benefits for the community (is there ARRA funding involved?), adequate monitoring and reporting, oversight on ADEM or assignment of another lead agency.  The site is going to get cleaned up, the ash and contaminated soil landfilled somewhere and things will move on whether we all like it or not - it would be the perfect use for a site such as Kos to serve as a rallying point and educational resource to intervene and power some stakeholder involvement in this cleanup.
