confronted. Cynical manipulation of less-than-well educated people is preventing us from making the kind of societal changes we really must do.

I bet a lot of people who'd like to make some of the improvements you mention just can't afford to, especially now.

Gonna go look for that inexpensive, nifty solar charger you mentioned.

Okay, the Government says you MUST abort your child. NOW do you get it?

    •  Cynical Manipulation (0+ / 0-)

The people who are being manipulated can be addressed with simple efficiency and renewables messages.  I'm more concerned with weatherization barnraisings and buyers clubs for energy supplies so that those who can't afford efficiency measures now can find a way sooner than later.

The deniers are being confronted and their howls will continue to grow louder even as climate change effects become more obvious.  I just want to see some attention paid to the solutions which work for everybody no matter their politics.  There is a common sense common ground.  When are people going to start building the foundation for a real future there?

exclusive, that's all. (and don't think moot was the best choice of words.)

But, here's a nice example: through incidental exposure to the renewables/climate change arguments on a local development issue, a very well-to-do couple decided to put grid-tied solar on their roof. Even though it's not a terribly favorable location and surely cost a boatload.

Position changed from "I don't have to because I can afford my electric bill" to "I can afford to do this and increase my independence at the same time. And since I can afford to, I should, to help move the technology along."

My problem is with the current state of the debate which is almost completely problem-oriented without any discussion of solutions.  I want to act (ACT not talk) on those solutions that make sense, save energy and money now whatever your own personal politics.

I made the title explicitly controversial because I want to stimulate action.  This is where I come from and I don't see that position represented in the wider world.  Others can confront the climate deniers, and believe me I also do from time to time, but I concentrate on the common ground activities that everyone can agree on.
