Preacher for an uncle, I have had my fill of hellfire and brimstone rantings. My uncle would be drenched in sweat at the end of the sermon and if he really felt he had the crowd going he would nod to the Church 'brothers' (real brothers here, they were my uncles too)to pass the 'offering plate' an extra time.
He lived with his family in a nice brick home and yet the Church was a wooden community center hall. (It began with folding chairs in his back yard), but even the Church got an extension built before he 'lost the Church'.
One day he was caught in bed with the Church secretary by one of my aunts (his wife) and promptly fired the secretary for 'temptin' him'.
The very next Sunday it was a full house to hear him talk about it, and it was full in large part to my gossiping Grandmother who had fallen in love with the phone. If she had their phone number  they were not going to be left unaware of the 'scandal'.
Reverend Bill, ran the 'offering plate a few extra times that day as he preached about how he certainly was no Jesus and considering that even Jesus almost got tempted, well... he was no Jesus.
He made out like a bandit. In fact I think he should have kicked my grandmother some money for what she did.
