    We've spent so much time divided as a party.  Waxman, of course, wanted to advance.  You can't blame him for that.  But that fight split the moderates and old style progressives from the more pure liberals in the party.

    Honestly, that fight really pissed me off.

    And did Waxman do anything more to get a climate change bill or health care bill through Congress than Dingell would have done?  Hardly.  For a good part of last year, Waxman's committee was in open revolt on health care.  That was at least part of the reason we didn't get health care done during the super majority.

    Dingell is representative of a range of Democrats who can be described as liberal, but maybe not quite as liberal as some might like.  And his district is filled with working class Democrats, Catholics and union members.

    Those are the kinds of voters that have abandoned Obama in droves.  Dingell was exactly the right man to lead the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

    The fact that he was forced out is no small part of the problem for Democrats.
