    obviously. For the record, governor Jimmy Carter called William Calley, the only person ever convicted of murder in My lai massacre, a hero. Look, history is what it is. The abuses didn't begin with Bush and they won't end with him. There is a reason nobody in Bush administration is ever going to be punished and the reason is more obvious than it seems- nobody is being honest about this episode.

      and sadly true. The difference with the Bush admin was their doctrine of preemption and the unitary executive, and the fact that they had a policy for torture that goes beyond the bounds of what should be acceptable constitutionally. It was a very dangerous proposition for this country.

      I don't think that these things should be swept under the rug anymore simply because that is the way we always handle it, we might one day truly regret that we did not hold them responsible or accountable.

      In the meantime, we have to watch Dick Cheney brazenly stick his torture memos in our face because he also knows that nothing will happen to him.
