    As it happens, I finished reading The Handmaid's Tale a few nights ago.  I highly recommend it to those who haven't read it.  One of the most striking things about the novel is how the protagonist attempts to reconstruct how she lost all of her rights when life went on as "usual".  

    I can't think of a good sig.

      This is the Handmaid's Tale.  Women are to become incubators.  Anything that interferes (or potentially interferes) with the complete incubation and delivery of a baby will become criminal.

        Since in the coming Republic of Gilead, divorce will probably be outlawed (except for those privileged few at the top), infertile wives will be beheaded to make room for their fertile replacements.

        (sorry.  I was watching Simon Schama's History of Britain last night.)
