  •  With Clinton it meant whipping GOP on budget (0+ / 0-)

you are apparently too young to remember Clinton beating Newt to the curb in the Battle of the Budget to the point GOP threw Newt into the street.

Not only did Clinton beat Newt and the GOP, he cut the deficit and got US to budget surplus.

Lincoln filibusters solutions to US problems rendering Democratic majority totally ineffective and causing Democrats to lose elections and majority.

She only has this power due to the filibuster. With the filibuster the minority sets the agenda as we see right now rendering the chairmanships pointless. Lincoln, the GOP stalwart, holds one of the chairmanships.

Only if the filibuster is ended would it help to have Democrats like Lincoln in the Senate. Then chairmanships and setting the agenda would matter.

    •  I remember that (0+ / 0-)

Today's GOP would call Clinton's bluff and let the government go into default. With relish.

      •  You got it backwards. Clinton called GOP bluff. (0+ / 0-)

It was the GOP who were bluffing and Clinton called them on it and let the GOP shut down the government. GOP folded and Clinton won the hand. GOP lost so badly the tossed Newt out of House job and out of Congress.
