on his own or in response to public pressure.  Personally, I'm calling him tomorrow.

anything is always possible; goodness knows this story twists and turns daily.  i do think the pulling back we're seeing is kind of intended to blunt the GOP criticism of "if you're just going to shove the PO through reconciliation, your whole summit is a sham."  etc.

who effin' knows.  i'm calling and telling them they need to get this effin' done.  on a boat, in a moat, with a goat.  i don't care how they do it.

but at this point, it seems like obama's plan is more ambitious in the fixes it proposes than anything we'd get out of reconciliation.  i'm willing to give him until after the summit and see what happens; he and reid clearly prefer to do this with 60 votes.

did you see jim bow's diary yesterday?

People are upset Obama hasn't solved all the problems yet. C'mon, he's only been in office one year...the man went to Harvard, not Hogwarts. - Wanda Sykes

carefully as it demanded.  There's an argument for doin' it Swiss-style, as Obama seems to prefer, but I still prefer competition to regulation (which will one day be run by Republicans.)  Still, while I want people to fight for the P.O. (and I agree that this may just be a tactical retreat), I'd surely favor Obama's plan over the status quo.
