  •  Look at this (10+ / 0-)

Bunning’s quixotic pursuit of deficit offsets at the potential expense of payments to unemployed or uninsured citizens enraged Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and other Democrats, who vowed to keep the chamber in session until Bunning relents or collapses.

    Until Bunning relents or collapses.

Or, for three hours so that he'd miss prime time TV last night, and then not at all today.

It's not about who gets blamed. He's retiring. No one will give a shit.

It's about being handed the chance to beat the shit out of him and actually win the vote, and even promising to do so and then simply... not.

    •  No they tried again today. (2+ / 0-)

is your problem with Senate rules?

      •  No, with Durbin. (8+ / 0-)

Yes, he tried again today. Once.

A senior Democratic leadership aide said Durbin would ask for unanimous consent to pass the extensions without Bunning’s payment scheme every half hour for the foreseeable future. "We’re going to keep doing it until we break him," the aide said.

Then I watched the Senate sit through about two hours of quorum call stalling.

Any single Dem Senator could have asked for the quorum call to be suspended (as Harry Reid eventually did). And at that point, Bunning would either have to be there to block lifting the quorum call, or relent and allow the UC request to pass the bill to be made again.

Nobody objected to lifting the quorum call, but nobody made any further requests to pass the bill.

What happened to "every half hour?" What happend to "doing it until we break him?"

One more attempt, after a good night's sleep? Really? That's it?
