  •  I'm no fan of Rory Reid (4+ / 0-)

(if you think Evan Bayh is too much of an agitator/partisan activist who needs to be more civil... you'd love Rory) but if Gibbons finds a way to get the GOP nomination, I think Son Of Harry wins.

Most people mildly dislike or are indifferent to Rory because they think his whole political life has been one hook-up from his dad after another, but they hate Jim Gibbons.

Once you get outside of a primary, and in front of the whole Nevada electorate, Gibbons is probably the only one in state politics more underwater than Harry Reid is. People really hate him out here. His scandals and his endless idiocy with trying to deal with every crisis by gutting education.

The Nevada GOP is actually the worst I have ever seen. Worst than the Massachusetts GOP I used to laugh at. If things had gone better in DC over the last year, like if a robust Public Option had been a part of healthcare reform and the Democrats had picked more fights than beat themselves up against bipartisanship rock, Sandoval probably would have stayed out of any race and hunkered down for a future fight. The guy is not exactly a profile in courage. Lowden and Tarkanian were on the wall because guys like Sandoval were mired in scandal or ducking Harry Reid when he looked unbeatable. He only went after Gibbons because he assumed it was a sure thing, even after Reid's numbers tanked.

    Gibbons.

    Back?

Wow. The national GOP is nuts, the Nevada GOP makes them look like they care about governance.

    Gibbons. Winning the GOP primary?

He is still finding ways to get caught in public with his mistress and then lying about it, and then babbling like an idiot about it when he has no place to go.

Gibbon's potential for scandal is like an iceberg, you only see the most over-the-top stupid/crazy but there is a lot more garbage beneath the waterline.

    •  One of the political numbers-crunchers, (5+ / 0-)

Charlie Cook or Nate Silver (I forget), made a list of Republican Governors in order of their likelihood of ever becoming President.

Gibbons was the only one below Schwarzenegger, who is of course Constitutionally prevented from running.

    •  They still pale in comparison to IL Rethugs. (1+ / 0-)

Regardless of the final outcome of the Feb. 2 GOP Gubernatorial race (where at last count the margin was about 200 votes statewide), the Rethugs will field a candidate who was rejected by 80% of their own Primary voters.  The likely nomineee (State Sen. Bill Brady) just voted against legislation in the Illinois General Assembly that would ban the use of gas chambers to kill several dogs and cats at once.  (Take note, pootee lovers!)

Meanwhile the GOP Lt. Gov. candidate, 27-year-old Jason Plummer, a rich guy's son from Downstate Illinois, made his initial appearance on a lengthy TV interview program in Chicago this week.  "Baby-Face" Plummer froze up after just a couple of minutes.  You can see the great Rethug hope for yourself (and realize there are eight more months to pound these knuckleheads into political oblivion) by going to: http://www.wttw.com/...
