on unemployment in 2001.  Not fun.  When I found a job, the UI administrator told me it was the only good news he had all week.  I'm still waiting for my cadillac, I'm not big on bon bons (nachos with lots of cheese are better), and Oprah bores me.  Still, I would much rather have Obama in charge than Bush.

    •  Amen to that. I don't miss him at all. (0+ / 0-)

Growing up in MI, you realized pretty quickly that economics are cyclical. I can remember the early 70's - middle school where lots of white collar people got laid off. Pretty ugly for their white collar kids who thought that they had the world by the ass. Being a blue collar kid - I'd already been through dad's laid off and it's mom's job and UI that is keeping food on the table. Along with dad going hunting - ate lots of rabbits and pheasants when I was young. Assholes like Bunning need to live on the other side of the tracks for a month or 6. UI isn't a freakin picnic.

      •  I guess I was a green collar kid (0+ / 0-)

When I was young, my dad was a farmer.  Later, he rented out the land, and worked, I think, construction.  i was 15 when he died, and was never real clear on what he did.  My roots, though, are on the farm, because that's where I spent my childhood.
