      but not too long ago, a lot of nurses left the profession or left the hospitals for jobs as nurse reviewers at insurance companies or became NP's etc.,.

      A lot were pushed out. But then the hospitals realized they went too far and began importing nurses from places like the Philippines or Taiwan.

      If you have stayed at a hospital recently, you might find that direct care to patients is done more by nursing assistants. RN's and LPN's are more like managers on the floor. And you probably noticed that there are more nurse specialties.

      I am not saying the changes were bad, but rather that change came about by necessity. When the average age of the regular nurse staff started drifting up to the mid-fifties, management finally realized something had to be done to raise salaries and upgrade jobs. A lot of facilities did it too late and are no longer with us.

      If you are older than 55, never take a sleeping pill and a laxative at the same time!
