  •  these kid have had their futures STOLEN. (0+ / 0-)

These kids have had their hopes and dreams stolen.

What is worse, to take someone's wallet or to steal their future?

To take their TV set or to force them into a life of poverty.

I was born dirt poor. I know that the only reason I am not behind bars is that I had a few good teachers who cared enough to teach me to read and write and do math.

I was exactly like those kids -- the kids you do not think can be edcuated. These kids that are bouncing off the walls.

    I was one of them.

Poor doesn't mean sub-human, poor doesn't mean stupid. Poor just means that your parent made some mistakes.

I know the truth and the truth is that none of these children should have failed that easy ass math test.

I bet the average 4th grader at my kid's school could pass it.

The only lifeline the poor have is education.

Education saved me and I am pissed that none of you give a shit about these children -- your only concern is with the union.

I grew up poor too. So what?

I work in a rural, poverty ridden area. I've worked here for 37 years. I've had opportunities to move to wealthier districts but I've elected to stay here.

I'm well aware of the problems the come with poverty. I actually work every day to do something about it. So you can take your fake "outrage" elsewhere.

I also know that different children have different talents. Some do math well. Some, including my son, do not. Some children will consider any math test to be easy. Some children (and some adults) will struggle. Children should be encouraged to follow their talent and not be locked into some "one size fits all" curriculum that the Bush and Obama administrations want to impose.

One more thing. I grow real tired of the garbage about so-called inferior teachers in poor schools. My staff is excellent. I have a simple challenge. I will take my staff and trade places with the staff of one of those wealthy schools. At the end of one month my staff will view their assignment as the easiest gig ever. The staff from the wealthy school will be talking to themselves. Thus far no one has taken up my challenge but what I say is true.

Our work is difficult, but we are here becasue we want to be and we make a difference.

and it was an 11th grade math exam.  So firing 100 teachers is good math now.
