...the definitions.  Sex is biology and of the body.  Gender is in the brain.  One person has described it as brain sex, I'll grant you, which probably didn't help.

We transsexual people alter our body morphology (but not our genetics) in order to placate what is going on in our heads, if you will.  As one person said (okay, me...),

Sex is between the legs.  Gender is between the ears.

Sense of self is what transgender is all about, which is why it is so important.

is probably not the best place to find information about the subject, but I get a somewhat different impression from reading that article on what gender means. There are of course various ways of using the word, but I don't see it describing self-identity as being what gender is about. It does talk about gender identity, but that the same as gender?

In any case, I see what you are getting at with the distinction. But since the brain is part of the body, the distinction may not always be clear, especially to a person who hasn't personally had to confront these issues.

Sex is biological, and it is the same across all cultures.

Gender is social, and it varies between cultures.

While some of the cultural narratives surrounding transsexualism vary between cultures, it exists in all cultures.

Remember Duanna Johnson. Tortured by the Memphis PD for being black and trans. Killed by the Memphis PD for speaking up.
