  •  Legislated skepticism in SD (7+ / 0-)

The lawmakers came up with this:

House Concurrent Resolution 1009 calls for a "balanced approach for instruction in the public schools relating to global climatic change," asserting the causes are unclear and the research has been compromised by politics. The statement, which carries no legal weight, passed the House and Senate by narrow margins.

It's unlikely to have much of an effect in classrooms. But the resolution, especially its original language, has made the Legislature a popular target for ridicule.

The original language included a description of CO2 as the "gas of life" and claimed astrology affected the weather. The author meant astronomy - it's so hard to tell those two apart, but the mistake didn't cause him to rethink his role in legislating science curriculum.
