    of Grand Illusion, which is that it was more about the tensions between older sets of values about warfare (fair play, maintaining class distinctions) and new ones (survivalist, democratic, etc.)  But I definitely love both movies.  Rules of the Game wins for audacity - and my god, that camerawork!

      I've only seen it once, so I should give it another go.  Definitely with you on the camerawork in La regle du jeu, amazing fluidity and grace.  Little wonder Welles admired Renoir.
