  •  That's not exactly a winning argument. Is it? (1+ / 0-)

If campaigning was the issue, you go with someone who can campaign. Rachel is a radio and TV host. After Al Franken's struggles ( He way underperformed Obama and won only because of the third party candidate) and after Scott Brown's win I'd rather not take chance with someone like Rachel Maddow.

    •  You were the one (4+ / 0-)

making a dubious and unsubstantiated argument.

You have no candidate in mind, just a  hypothetical notion that experience as a campaigner translates into campaigning effectively every time, and that people without campaign experience can't.

My relevant examples prove you are wrong and that  the individual and the circumstances of a particular race will be determinative. Particularly here in MA.

    •  In addition to radio and tv host... (3+ / 0-)

...she's a PhD and a Rhodes Scholar - and you're talking out your ass.

    •  I think Rachel would be a Fantastic candidate. (1+ / 0-)

She works as hard as anyone, and she is the smartest person in the room.

Plus, you'd be hard pressed to find many Dems crossing the line to vote for Brown with a clearly top-notch person like Maddow running.

        choice.

You can't dis her credentials.  Plus, she is clearly for the people.

Although I would love Rachel Maddow as a Senator, she is probably doing more good in her current position.

There would be a huge vacuum left if she went to Washington.

Warren for Ma Senate in '12.

        •  Warren is great (0+ / 0-)

but like Maddow has no record winning elected office.

text "YELE" to 501501 to give five bucks to Haitian relief, or "HAITI" to 90999 to give ten to the Red Cross.

          •  That's probably more valuable today (0+ / 0-)

            than political experience.

People don't like politicians...they want people who can get things done.

Elizabeth Warren has been an absolute Rock throughout this entire financial crisis.  She is certainly more trusted than just about anyone else.

You are putting too much weight in the need for past experience winning elected office.  In this climate it more than likely is used against you.

      •  Maddow (0+ / 0-)

Dems would cross over in droves to vote for Brown and she'd get crushed by the independents.

        •  Are you nuts? If Coakley was half a candidate, (1+ / 0-)

she would have won walking away.

Maddow knows the political game and understands how to be a winner.

What makes you think people would cross over to vote for Brown?

The base in Mass is HUGE for the Dems.  If Coakley didn't take it for granted, she would have won.  I highly doubt that Maddow would even enter the race, but if she did, she would be in it to win it.

If the "Gay" issue is your defense, I think the power of the base would far outweigh the number of defectors because of it.

Coakley lost because she sucked...NOt because Brown was great.

          •  Not just gay (0+ / 0-)

While the lesbian thing would cost her some votes, that's not what I am basing this on.  Reporters say so much shit in a day - all it will take is an enterprising oppo researcher to comb through the miles of footage to find a few things that will look bad out of context.  Look at that Fox reporter running for congress down in Miss who is in trouble over something she said that could sound anti-gun.

Frankly, RM also can come across as smug and self-satisfied - good qualities in a reporter perhaps but she would put off independents.
