the other day the size of a volkswagon!  Class was good, the pursuit of knowledge is a strange and twisting path sometimes.  The wind did lie down, it's not supposed to be as windy tomorrow.  This today came howling straight out of the west, that means it was carrying considerable sand with it.  It's not sand like you probably think of--this stuff is very fine and works itself into the smallest of nooks and crannies.  Good thing I was dirt blind before I ever started having trouble with my vision.  I just glaze right past it and always have.

    •  I have never seen a tumbleweed in real life (3+ / 0-)

But even I know that car-sized ones are not a good thing!

What kind of class are you taking, if you don't mind me asking?

it's a class at the Catholic church, explaining the Church to non-Catholics.  It's fascinating because everything I know is historical.  Can't study history without learning a lot about the Church, but that is fairly dry and more about what was done and not why.  Tumbleweeds get bigger as they travel as they are very prickly and pick stuff up.  An amazing sight is to see a burning one tumbling down the road, they are why we have wildfires that burn hundreds or thousands of acres out here.

I was raised part of this tradition is learning about other religious traditions; a better understanding of others' belief systems informs our own.

LOL - so tumbleweeds are kind of like snowballs in an avalanche, picking up stuff as they move? I had no idea! :-D

And a burning tumbleweed sounds like a very dramatic, almost cinematic sight! It would make a great opening scene for a movie. :-)

and informative.  It isn't a big hill for me to climb to be respectful of other beliefs, after all it's what we should all be aiming for.  If we want our beliefs to be respected we should be able to return the favor.  The wildfires out here are beyond impressive, they can be terrifying if only for the speed at which they spread.  I don't know why no one has filmed it other than it is rare and no one would allow a crew to deliberately set them on fire.  We don't have much but miles of fencing are a huge investment.  I've seen fires burn a thousand acres and no buildings are involved.
