  •  The fascists move swiftly and have no problem (0+ / 0-)

exercising power. That is why they are so effective. Once their noxious thinking takes root and passes an easy to reach tipping point, its easy for a small group of fascists to take over an entire society.

They can do it with a small minority, because the middle in a society will usually go along with the dominant paradigm, at least until it becomes so horrible that even they revolt.

We've seen this play so many times in Latin America. In Chile, one day the fascists just rounded up leftists and artists in the stadium and killed many of them, including a popular folk singer.

The fascists have no problem exercising power, while the democratic socialists aren't comfortable exercising power. See the Weimar Republic for an example.

One day everything is normal, the next day the fascists execute their plan and everyone is caught by surprise.

They use violence to scare people into line, and it works. Most people are so scared to keep what creature comforts they have, that they don't do anything to stop it.

The few people who actually do stand against the fascists in the beginning are rounded up and killed, or tortured.

We are fools if we don't see that a crypto-fascist movement has taken hold in America, and is growing in power and influence.

Even if this is a spoof, it's believable that people in Utah feel this way, and that's the scary thing.
