    and radio was big in those days.  I think there are two major differences.  The big one is that television is so much more a powerful and addictive manipulator and it's broadcasting the most sophisticated propaganda in history, developed through years of advertising research.  The other is that we citizens are more sheepish--I'm thinking it's the combination of television and public school that has people being less empowered.  Everyone identifies with comfortable characters on sitcoms instead of with their actual class.

    Hope has never trickled down. It has always sprung up.
