According to Nate Silver, Stupak is not in one of the top 25 "most valuable to district".  It's a way of measuring each district by its partisan makeup to see what kind of candidate you'd expect a district to elect.  Every once in a while a district elects a representative that is much more liberal than the district (even if they are pretty frustratingly moderate), and those are the ones you don't want to primary.  But, Stupak isn't near the top of that list.  Pressure from the left would be a good thing, I think.

a pretty cool measurement.  But even if he's not valuable in that sense, he's better than a Repub, because of committee seats, and primarying him if it looks like it will it won't accomplish a thing and will hurt him wouldn't be a good idea, but we're not nearly there yet.  Right now, I think it's a good idea.
