The only area of dispute remaining is marriage and/or civil union. That's a huge victory and we should congratulate the gay (and straight) activists who have brought the country to this point.

    •  You're too optimistic (5+ / 0-)

Remember what happened to Florida4Obama's nephew.

We've definitely torn down many barriers and reached the point that they won't be rebuilt, but we still have a long way to go.

If you rephrased it as "the battle for gay equality has gone mainstream", though, I'd completely agree with you.

Facts are sweet, but some people are factose intolerant

    •  I know there are naysayers, but you ARE RIGHT. (0+ / 0-)

We obviously have to fight this nonsense wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head, but the battle for equality IS won simply due to the fact that the younger generation, even conservatives, largely support their gay friends. Nowadays pretty much everyone knows someone who is gay and it's hard to hate the people you know and see every day. I am deeply grateful for the brave people who came out of the closet in the past and are still coming out today. The fight isn't over, it still takes work, but we HAVE WON. It's just a matter of shoring up our defenses against the last, inevitable tidal wave of desperate hatred.

Proud supporter of placing blame where it lies - on Republicans.
