  •  Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William) go it? (0+ / 0-)

They were countered on the House floor Wednesday by Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William), who suggested the reaction against Cuccinelli might be an attack against his Catholic faith.

Marshall said last night that McDonnell's directive carries no force and is no more than a "press release with fluff around it."

(Washington Post Metro section: Va. Gov. McDonnell prohibits bias against gay state workers closing paragraphs.)

So, we have to wonder if Marshall is flying top cover for the governor with the right or is at odds with him or simply correct in analysis. This is the same Marshall that got into the books as Va OKs 1st bill banning mandated health coverage sponsor and making news for this reported quote:

At the heart of the controversy are varying interpretations of Marshall's remarks on God, abortion and disabled children. At the news conference, Marshall said:

"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion who have handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the firstborn of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children.

"In the Old Testament, the firstborn of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord," he added. "There's a special punishment Christians would suggest -- and with the knowledge that they have in faith, it's been verified by a study from Virginia Commonwealth University -- first abortions, of a first pregnancy, are much more damaging to a woman than latter abortions."

(Va. delegate says reports on abortion comments were 'unfair')

Accurate analysis seems unlikely for this critter. The cesspool of Virginia's right wing nuttery may get interesting indeed. Unfortunately all of us will have to live with that--even those of us that did bother to turn out to oppose these clowns last November.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
