when/if we learn of a particular problem a recipient has. They will know which community agency is most appropriate to handle it. One of our area churches also had volunteers doing some basic repairs/additions (wheelchair ramp, delivering firewood, etc.) for one of our couples. MoW doesn't want its drivers to assume liability beyond what they're doing for the organization - so it'd be good to check with them first.

I take baked goods to our folks from time to time, and they appreciate it. I asked MoW first, though, when we began, and they approved it. And as to gifts, at Christmas, one of our recipients gave her MoW drivers a kitchen towel that she had crocheted a hanging loop on (you know, you put a large button on it & then you can attach it on the fridge or stove handle; I love those things--very convenient!). Another gave the drivers $20 to go toward gas, which we told her we'd donate to MoW for her. She insisted not--that she already donates to the organization (those who can, do), and that she intended it for us, end of story.

It's so nice to see the responses here to MoW -- !

    Don't believe everything you think.

and accepting gifts of a towel with hand-crocheted loop makes perfect sense.
I was thinking more of the kind of thing that happened to my aunt in which an unscrupulous relative persuaded my aunt to give her most of her very expensive jewelry (and never bothered to visit her afterwards).
But of course, that relative was not a good-hearted MoW volunteer but a truly avaricious person who had no interest in helping anyone but herself.

If, in our efforts to win, we become as dishonest as our opponents on the right, we don't deserve to triumph.
