...he shouldn't be farking around with the Health Care issue.  Especially since in Delta County alone Mead is the only good paying job with benefits left when Escan and Harnischfeger pulled out (and even that's not a sure things anymore with the closing of mills at Niagra/Quinnesac) and where teenagers compete with their parents over crappy jobs at Walmart and McDonalds.

But people have to understand that he really is the lesser of two evils for the people who have to live in the UP.  I know people, especially those who don't live in the area, want to send Stupak a message for being a tool.  That's great but then you need to find somebody who won't lose in the general election to a candidate who's not going to be any better for the people who do live there just because folks want to prove a point on a national level.

    •  I think you can make the argument both ways (0+ / 0-)

I don't think you are wrong, but his influence has now become much wider than his district.  His "farking around with health care" means he is trying to hurt me, personally, by sabotaging reform and taking away reproductive choice.  So I feel completely justified in donating to Saltonstall even though I have never set foot in the UP.

Beyond that, I really dislike the religious ideologues who think it's OK to impose their religious beliefs on everyone else.  When the ideologue is also a member of some sort of bizarre cult, and demonstrated to have lied about it, he appears dangerous to constitutional government.  And he isn't alone in that.  My own Senator Grassley is a member of the Family, and I am working to deprive him of his job as well.

I don't live in Delta County anymore but my brother does (aside: I've been blessed with Senselessbrenner who will likely be in until he drops dead and I swear that Waukesha County will vote for his corpse if it still had an R after it's name) and I think that people have to understand that Casperson would probably join "The Family" and not be shy about anti-choice rhetoric or gay bashing or whatever.  That's his makeup.  I really wish people like my brother and others would call Stupak and say "Hey asshole!  I work at a bowling alley because that's the best job I could find with our craptacular unemployment rates here and I don't have health insurance. What the hell are you doing?" because I think that would be more effective than a primary challenge where the odds are slim.  And I can't support any challenge that comes in the way of the Repuke winning to punish Stupak because no one wins.

          on this part:

I could argue that Stupak has much more influence over HCR legislation than any Repub would.  He is getting his smug mug on teevee every day because he's a Democrat.  He is blocking the Dems' signature campaign promise because of his personal religious beliefs, which he would have less ability to accomplish if he were in the minority party.  You don't see Joseph Cao being interviewed every day about what he thinks.

Nope.  Not OK what Stupak is doing.  If a message is sent and there is less of this sort of thing in future, then it is my view that we (Democrats) win.
