  •  This is the reason why we should be focused (7+ / 0-)
on passing things like HCR even if it gets watered down to focus primarily on the poor.

Working class whites are so insulated from what the real world is like for poor minorities that their complaints about things like HCR just sound ridiculous to me.

It's just amazing, all this white resentment out there because of the economy.

Boo hoo white people. You don't know what having it tough means. Bunch of spoiled crybabies.

    •  Thanks for your racism. (5+ / 0-)

Not all white people are "spoiled crybabies," you racist.

Notice the tea baggers screaming the loudest about HCR are almost all white? Where are the blacks, Latinos, and Asians screaming to stop it? It is mostly, not entirely, middle class white people whining the loudest. Sure, the rich white people are funding it and folks like Beck, Limbaugh, etc. feed the flames but it the whites doing most of the bitching.

Has anyone noticed the "Invisible Hand of the Free Market" is still giving us the bird?

        •  Overgeneralizing and stereotyping just (5+ / 0-)

          perpetuates hatred.

Using this to draw the conclusion that all white people are "spoiled crybabies" is like using this...

Notice how the prisons incarcerate blacks and Hispanics at a much higher rate than whites?

to come to the conclusions that blacks and Hispanics are inherently criminals.

          Racist to the core.

          •  Umm, no it isn't (4+ / 0-)

But explaining it to you isn't going to be easy. You want to be offended by pointing out that large numbers of white people are, in fact, racist. If you take the number of folks that openly think Obama is the antiChrist, or an illegal alien from Kenya you're pushing half the white population of this country. That is very different from smearing a group like blacks or Hispanics with a statistic that doesn't speak to the numbers of their general population. Yes, not all whites are racists but most racists are in fact white. At least in the America of today.

Only the ones complaining about how tough they have it these days are crybabies.

There are a lot of white people out there who aren't complaining because they know better.

As I contemplate the various conversations I've been having with people of good will on the subject of "absolutism" and "litmus tests" especially as it pertains to the ongoing unanswered assaults a woman's right to choose, I keep thinking about Martin Luther King's Letter from a Birmingham Jail, particularly this passage:

I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

This issue is a matter of fundamental human rights.
