Nobody living on $1000 a month is buying any big screen TVs.  You're sounding way out of touch by even suggesting that.  Living beyond means at that income level means buying new shoes for the kids at WalMart rather than getting them at GoodWill.  Or buying shoes at all!

Hell, living beyond your means at that income level means going to the doctor when you've got a persistent cough.  Ain't nobody at that income level's gonna have a mortgage - not unless their job went away and are on greatly reduced circumstances.  And then, they'd better be putting the house on the market, or walking away from it if it's under water.

You're making a good point, in a way.  But your presentation is nuts.  People I know have given up vehicles entirely; begging for help to keep the lights on.  Can't afford new glasses even if the old ones are scratched or they need a new prescription.

I'd suggest trying to draw up a budget for $1000 dollars a month first, to get real about your numbers.  I live in one of the lowest income counties in one of the lowest income states
