  •  Correction. There is a Senate companion bill (3+ / 0-)

Introduced by Joe Lieberman just months ago. I have cites in a diary I wrote two days ago.

The Senate bill has 24 co-sponsors. Conspiculously absent is Claire McCaskell. She's on the Armed Services Committee and will need to vote for folding it into the next military spending budget for repeal to actually happen. She needs to sign on.

    •  Do you have a Bill number or is it an Amendment? (1+ / 0-)

McCain says he will not allow it to be attached to DoD budget which would make it an Amendment..

McCaskill is not my fav on the AS Committee. She needs to get more informed or better Congressional Aids.

And it's picked up another co-sponsor, Debbie Stabenaw of Michigan (I remember when she was my city council women! WOOOT!)

I don't think McCain gets to unilaterally decide if it's attached to the budget, it's a majority rule of the committee yes? I have the contact to all the Armed Services Committee members in the diary I posted two hours ago on this same story.

        •  Thx, Don't think that you can count on McCaskill (0+ / 0-)

The Assembly of God's huge world hqtrs are in Springfield, MO. for starters. She's got to protect her seat.

McChrystal's older brother is a retired AG chaplain who now is recruiting more:

My parents lived there for 15 years. I'm now in AR. No way will Lincoln or Pryor vote for this bill.

I really think that the only way to end DADT is to get it into the DoD appropriations bill which would challenge McCain to put a hold on it to keep it in committee. This would force a showdown when the DoD can't meet it's payroll in either June or July. It would also provide CYA cover for those who have constituency challenges.

          •  That would explain her silence (0+ / 0-)

To being publicly called out by Lt. Dan Choi and an advocacy group a few days ago.

She doesn't get the luxury of sitting this fight out though. She's on the armed services committee, if she won't vote for folding the bill into the spending budget, the chances of repeal passing sink dramatically.
