in this endeavor is that Stupak's constituents like him. A lot. The guy has been coasting to victory with 65% margins for some time now.

Has there been any polling done to determine if enough people are pissed at Bart to actually make this a real race? Where does Saltonstall stand on the Second Amendment?

The U.P. is rural and poor. Charlevoix is one of those Great Lakes towns with 50 foot boats parked at the marina and huge lakefront homes. I'm not saying it can't be done, but anyone who knows this state will tell you this is a longshot.

And that is neither dirty nor a little secret. Nor is it something that should discourage us from holding Stupak accountable. You're correct that his constituents have been re-electing him over and over with handsome margins. Connie even worked in his campaign last cycle! But people in the district-- particularly Democratic activists who vote in the Democratic Party primaries-- are very angry now, not always because he is an anti-Choice fanatic but because of all the C-Street/Family bullshit and because he was willing to put his agenda (and The Family agenda) over and above the needs of his constituents' needs for healthcare reform.

Connie declared a week ago. Polls are VERY expensive. Give it a few weeks for folks in the sprawling exurban district-- the second largest one east of the Mississippi-- to get to know who Connie is.

i'm sure all his favorability numbers were pre-HCR stupak amendment.  has he ever even had a challenger?  not hard to get those vote results without a challenger.

tipped and rec'd!  let's get Saltonstall in!

crazy cultists once they discover that they are crazy cultists.  I would have to assume that with enough money to get her message out, just the revalations about his weird association with "The Family" cult will hurt him pretty badly with rural, red-neck-north voters.

      must be secret too.

All the zealots like Stupak can do is stop those women who are too poor or in too difficult a family situation to make a choice to end a pregnancy.

I thought the Democratic party was supposed to be about helping the disadvantaged. He should be primaried regardless of the electoral consequences though I will be interested to see some actual poll results.

      Remember to kick it over.

stated in public how can we be sure she's to the left of Stupak?

Last I checked, Fenway Park is not in Afghanistan.

She satisfied Blue America on all the issues and she'll be live at Crooks and Liars today at 3pm (EST)/ noon PT. You can come by and ask her any question you'd like. She isn't just a progressive-- which she certainly is-- she is also courageous, which means a great deal.

      •  If she's too far left of Bart (0+ / 0-)

she'll have a hard time in the general. Stupak is reliably Democratic 95% of the time. I'm having a hard time seeing how she distinguishes herself from Stupak without either being too far left for the district, or veering right and alienating Democrats even more than Stupak has.

Stupak is no blue dog. His district could easily elect one though, or a Republican. There's a thin line here that doesn't leave a whole lot of room for error, IMHO.

My prediction: Stupak relents and votes for the bill, the shitstorm passes, and all this is forgotten by November.
