We need not be divided over which of Kornheiser or Armstrong is or isn't a douchebag. Both of them are douchebags.

But this one thing, from your "Cycling Citizenship" link:

Do not run stop signs or red lights

if most cyclists followed this one rule (and, admittedly, by "most" I mean the vast majority of those who cycle on the streets I drive, who clearly do not follow this rule), whatever irritation I have toward cyclists would vanish. The worst example I've experienced is a cyclist who ran a red light right in front of me the morning after we'd been hit by an ice storm. That I didn't hit the cyclist or send my car sliding into a storefront on the icy street was a minor miracle. These incidents are isolated (though cyclists running stop signs is not, at least in my neighborhood), but it's not hard to see how they could contribute to an overall annoyance with cyclists in general.

And no, that doesn't mean you get to hit cyclists, of course not. Like I said, Kornheiser is a douchebag.

    •  You and I are on the same page (5+ / 0-)

I didnt say Armstrong wasnt a douche (maybe thats how he masks his dope)  But people do pay attention to him

I happen to live is a state where Cyclists Are not required to stop at stop signs.  The law says stops are yields and Stop Lights are stop signs for bicycles

There really are good safety reasons for it BUT I agree if the law says stop than thats what the cyclist should do

Heres a pretty good animation from Oregon that advocates for the Stop as Yield law for cyslists

You dont have to agree  and I respect those who dont  Just sharing the thoughts on the other side

      •  Even Yielding would be an improvement (0+ / 0-)

It's my (again, admittedly anecdotal) experience that plenty of cyclists don't even slow down when they come to a stop sign.

        •  If there are no cars at the stop signs or I beat (3+ / 0-)

them there by a significant bit of time, I roll stop signs, to maintain my momentum.  However, if people are running them without slowing at all while there are cars, that is a blatant violation.

Rather than hitting them, which I realize you're not advocating though some people seem to be, do the smart thing.  Log a complaint with your local police department.  If enough of you in your neighborhood complain they'll send a car out and cyclists will get ticketed.  Enough of those and the word gets out.  Problem mostly solved.

Laws are pretty good when you understand them, follow them, and allow them to do their job.

Everyone on both sides needs to be more respectful.
