people who don't want a woman making her own choice in consultation with her doctor are saying, in effect, "Don't worry your pretty little head, darlin'. You don't need to make any difficult decisions. Men know better what's best for you."

The only way their argument holds any water is if you buy into the precept that women are incapable of making rational and moral decisions of their own accord.

The moment one concedes that women are capable moral agents, with the ability to determine right from wrong, and able to make appropriate decisions based on the information available in circumstances they face at the time, then you must admit that they deserve the freedom to make such decisions.

But these people do not believe that women are capable moral agents, and will do everything they can to eliminate women's rights to act in such capacity for themselves - because to do otherwise would be to admit error. And so many other falsehoods hinge on that error, that they can never let go, for fear that the whole house of cards will crash down around it.
