the Courts recognise, Jewish courts, the Beth Din, which resolve civil disputes, covering issues as diverse as business and divorce.

Both sides in a dispute have to be Jewish and must both agree to have the case heard by the Beth Din. If agreed, the decision is binding. English law allows for any third party that is agreed by all sides to act as arbitrators. hence the recent "disputes" about the recognition of Sharia law in the UK.

I worry more and more about extreme right wing attitudes emerging in America. The Republican Party now worships at the feet of bigots like Pamela Geller.

I am of course aware of Godwin's Law, but it increasingly obvious that the American right, led by Fox News, are creating an Islamic demon, in much the same way the Nazis did to the Jews in the 1930s.

Hate has consequences and I would be very uncomfortable if I  happened to be an Islamic American with these extremists around.

      I agree with you.

Before 9/11 I doubt that anyone in the Afghan Taliban even knew how to get to the US.

      I. E. passport, airlines etc. etc. Now we have created enough revenge seeking folks who have the will, the desire and the knowledge to take their desire for revenge back to the US. Like maybe Las Vegas, where the Predators are controlled from.

If it wasn't for Kansas, I'd say OK was in the lead when it came to right wing reactionary attitudes.

... Beth Din courts in the United States, too.  By the looks of it, they largely cover civil matters, like divorce.

There was a similar fru-ha-ha about sharia in Canada a few years ago;  some Muslim communities in Ontario wanted to create sharia courts to operate with the same mandate over civil cases as the Jewish beth din courts had operated in Canada for over 20 years.  Meaning limited, and appeals on judgments rendered are subject to the oversight of the secular court system.
