  •  More advice on starting your own meetup (4.00)
    Don't just rely on Meetup.com for starting your Meetup. Not everyone will go online looking for it.  Also, at first you might get only a handful of people, and I believe there's a minimum threshold for Meetup.com to list a location.  So here's my advice...

    1. Put up fliers for your date/time/location in likely spots -- utility poles, cafes, grocery stores, etc.  Drop fliers on neighbors' doorsteps too.

    2. Hold the Meetup, regardless of how many people sign up. Be at the location early, and even if only one or two people show up, do the Meetup with them. Ask them to come back next time, and to each bring a couple of friends. Be prepared to start small and build from there.
