back to the House would not be the end of the world, since the only question would be on the Amendments, the rest would be deemed passed.  They may insist on conference or make further changes which the Senate can chose to accept or send to conference, or the House could go for conference proceedings right away. Either way, the number of differences would become smaller and smaller until Reconciliation passes.  Once the Senate agrees to the big ticket funding items and the modifications to the tax on Cadillac plans, the small stuff will work itself out.  We have the votes to outlast the bad guys.  Never forget the main thing.  WE ALREADY WON!  Don't sweat the details.

I think the unified Democratic leadership wants to move the Reconciliation Bill through the Senate without amendments because they want to avoid detours and delays which are fraught with dangers.

The public perception of Democratic momentum will be weakened if amendments start being argued at the same time that the R leadership is going into full obstruction mode.  The Democrats have a clear path to success if they can stick to the plan of having the Senate triumphantly approve the House Reconciliation Bill as is.  The public will have seen R obstruction and a solid Democratic victory.

Is 11 dimension chess really just magical thinking?
