They can make everyone pay a tax, dude. They do it all the time in numerous different ways. I don't think that's an even remotely plausible argument.

At least the commerce clause has seen some action in the last 15 years.

Anyway, just to expand on the fallaciousness of that argument, California imposes numerous taxes on you that result just from doing nothing.

For example, corporations have to pay income tax. But even if they don't make any income, they still have to pay the $800 franchise tax every year just to stay in existence.

Also, you can avoid car insurance as well. You can self-insure by posting a huge bond. So, the analogy to car insurance is pretty good.

This argument about being "forced" not being Constitutional is getting to the point where it's CW that it's bullshit and repeat it is becoming trollish.

blown out of the water by NAFTA- Noam Chomsky wrote about it in "Notes of NAFTA: "The Masters of Man"

      Read it!

The NAFTA-like GATS and its ratchet effect is an potential minefield for public health care! It is SO important that EVERY Democrat needs to read up on it, NOW!

California, or any State can do almost anything, taxes, car insurance, etc.

Once the Federal Government "seizes" this authority and power from the States, which they are now claiming...it's a whole new ball game.

Where does it end? Can they require I have a Bank Account next? They then can claim the same argument that I must buy 1 DVD every week too! Or that I buy 100. They can they say "we'll help you buy them if you're poor".

False analogy with car insurance, again. A STATE can require it...NOT the FEDERAL Government.

regs for medical support staff, I read somewhere.. for example, letting in foreign hospital temp agencies, would allow the importation of lots of nurses from the third World on temporary work visas. Thats the direction we are being shoved in, NOT towards public anything. Privatization, GATS is a one way street to privatization, once you let in any company, they are there for good. If we let in even one insurance company, nationally, then quite possibly no more single payer, ever.

They would OWN us. We would have to pay them BILLIONS in potential lost sales.
