  •   I'm from NC... (8+ / 0-)

Seems like he's building a huge war chest, which he'll most likely use to create prejudice, misinformation, and confusion among NC voters.

...and trust me, all of the above is already present.  All he has to do is stir it.

This was the state of Jesse Helms, remember.

This is the state of Sue Myrick (someone else who needs to be retired).

This is the state of Virginia Foxx (please oh please oh please let this year be the last of her reign).

However, NC did turn blue in electing maybe there's hope.

As disenchanted as I am with Congressional Democrats, I most certainly will be turning out to vote against (and that's what it will most likely be, unfortunately) Burr and Foxx.  Myrick's out of my district.

    •  Myrick's my district (5+ / 0-)

and while she is not quite as embarrassing as Virginia Foxx, I think she's at least as dangerous.  Really hope some good candidates come along to take both of those spots in the House.  There's a lot of publicity here about the challengers to Larry Kissell (mainly because of the crazy Machine Gun Social guy), but I have no idea what's going on in Myrick's race.

    •  I think Obama's success was based on GOTV (4+ / 0-)

      and turnout.

There was a huge amount of money and energy spent across the state, in part because of tremendous investment from the Triangle region.  I think Obama was uniquely strong with military families as well, because of his stance on just use of force and the Iraq War.

The infrastructure is there from 2008.  But we need to mobilize the base and I think that's the challenge.

Everyone wants Elaine Marshall to be Barack Obama - and we Dems now hold our candidates to a much higher standard.  It'll be interesting to see what happens.
